The ranks of middle and high school age children and youth who are wards of the State of Illinois and have a "special needs" diagnosis are rising. They need committed and qualified foster parents to guide them, on a short-term and longer-term basis. If you are interested in becoming a foster parent, come to this informational meeting. Topics to be covered include: the necessity for substitute care as a result of inflicted abuse and neglect, behavioral issues associated with foster care, licensing and training requirements for prospective foster parents, and legal issues associated with placement goals mandated by the juvenile court.
The 1501 Ellinwood Street library building is the realization of a longheld dream of the library board, staff and community partners. Located in the heart of downtown Des Plaines, the four story, 82,000 square foot building represents the community's commitment to reading, lifelong learning, and a center for family activities. A grand central staircase and large windows provide a wealth of natural light and illuminate the building at night.
