Learn about Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement. Much like sculpture, flower arrangements are studies in color, line, form and function. Ikebana artist E-Ling Lou will give an overview of Ikebana history and will demonstrate a sample arrangement. Using the sample arragement as a guide, workshop participants will make their own work of art to take home. Please bring gardening scissors if you have them.
E-Ling Lou is a second-term master teacher of the Ohara School of Ikebana. She has been practicing Ikebana for over 25 years. She volunteers at the Morton Arboretum.
The 1501 Ellinwood Street library building is the realization of a longheld dream of the library board, staff and community partners. Located in the heart of downtown Des Plaines, the four story, 82,000 square foot building represents the community's commitment to reading, lifelong learning, and a center for family activities. A grand central staircase and large windows provide a wealth of natural light and illuminate the building at night.
