Get ready for Halloween—or your next comic con cosplay—with the library’s makerspace! Every Wednesday in October, we’ll host an open Costume Laboratory, where you can design, create, and experiment with your costume ideas.

Bring your own materials, and explore our tools and equipment to make your vision a reality. Whether you’re sewing, crafting props, or adding those perfect finishing touches, The Canvas is the place to create. Staff will be on hand to help you explore techniques and equipment, but the creative vision is all yours! 

No glitter or high pile fur, please. Please keep costumes library appropriate.

The 1501 Ellinwood Street library building is the realization of a longheld dream of the library board, staff and community partners. Located in the heart of downtown Des Plaines, the four story, 82,000 square foot building represents the community's commitment to reading, lifelong learning, and a center for family activities. A grand central staircase and large windows provide a wealth of natural light and illuminate the building at night.
